The Limbe city exploded with joy on Tuesday 25 February 2020 after the election of the first ever Limbe city Mayor Mr.Andrew Motanga Monjimba .This was the first elections of its kind organised following the reforms proposed by the Major National Dialogue(MND) resolutions which scrapped among others the posts of Government Delegates in all the big cities in Cameroon.
The major national dialogue was organised in Yaounde , Cameroon from the 30 September 04 October 2020 by the Cameroon Government with a bid to solving the persisting Anglophone Crisis which started in October 2016. The MND brought together the diaspora, the civil society, political parties, the clergy, Non Governmental Organisations, lawyers, the administrative authorities, traditional rulers , media Houses etc. This meeting came up with decisions among which the special status given to the two anglophone Regions.
The MND also advocated for decentralisation conditions among which the suppression of the posts of government delegates who were appointed and the introduction of city delegates who are to be elected. These decisions were tabled to the Nationl Assembly and promulgated into law by the president of the Republic, His Excellency Paul Biya. This prepared the grounds for the twin elections namely municipal and legislative .
It is against this backdrop that, following legislative and municipal elections organised nation wide on 9 February 2020, every council organised the voting of the mayor on 25 February 2020.In the city of Limbe Motanga; former government was elected by his peers.
Out of 75 voters Andrew Motanga Monjimbo, obtained 74 votes while his opponent got 01 vote thus giving Motanga a landslide victory over Albert Ekema who later declared that the law was not respected during the process. The city of limbe celebrated its first ever city council Mayor with the motor bike riders parading the city. Finally Motanga offered a banquet in his private residence in Mokundange village,Limbe two concil area.
